Mobile Weapon Developer Diary #40

Avenger Super #1: MEGA-STRIKE!

After working with TY for about 45 minutes we came up with this animation for the Avenger MAW's first super attack (charged to 125%) move:

Mobile Weapon Episode 1. Copyright TYLER Projects 2006.

Still need to add in the boosters special effect and code in the enemy sprite.

There's a frame before this where the MAW twists and braces before the punch, we spent quite a bit of time getting the animation to be as fluid and "realistic" as possible. There's also some shaking here to show the impact of the punch but can't show it through pictures.

Cheesy zoom-in effect!

And then the white light emanating from the fist engulfs the screen!

Trust me, it looks much better when you view it as an animation. So stay tuned for our November the 10th release*!

In other news, we may be featured in a documentary on "Gaming in Singapore" so that's some additional motivation for us to really make the final release in December top quality. The documentary should be shown in the Gameplay channel on the Voom HD network. Hope you guys have HD cable.

Finally, I'd like to welcome our new associate, Ben a.k.a. Djlarazza who'll be in charge of Sales for Europe. Benvenuti, dude!

*We'll be releasing as a BETA testing version again and making some gradual improvements like we did with the current BETA because Matrix is travelling and I've got many reports due this coming week and an exam too.

Very nice, can't wait for the final beta coming out. But Avenger MAW's was not in MW E1 right???

Wow! These are pretty cool, and I am impressed. I think you should also add something, but it would take longer into releasing the final product of Beta. Therefore, I will not state my idea. Keep up the good work!

You can tell us after Nov 10th then. It's going to be a continuous improvement full release like the beta.

The Avenger will be in Episode 1, back by popular demand. You have to do a quest to get it.

All I am saying is that I really hope the December release is for real.

I don't know, September to October was acceptable, till November was ok, but to December is somewhat disappointing. But I will say that I hope the game is the best online!

I hope this December release is for real. Waiting 3 months of no gaames was a letdown. But postpone it as long as necessary guys.

December is for real. Otherwise no sales and TYLER goes *poof* from lack of money.

There's always the updated BETA release on November 10th you guys can look forward to.

In retrospect, there are 2 reasons we delayed the game. 1) we wanted to add more stuff. 2) the September/October deadlines were set to please potential investors.

In the future, I'll estimate our release dates based on our work schedule rather than external pressure so we have more accurate release dates with less delay.

is the game really coming out today?

Is the full Ep. 1 going to cost or something? Cos I was wondering what the sales were when Cervantes said "Otherwise no sales and TYLER goes *poof* from lack of money".

November Tenth, and no release... :(

Almost 7PM PST and still no update. Jee, I would at least hope that something...ANYTHING would come out today. Well, maybe they are gunna release it at the sheer end of the day.

TY is compiling the game right now. The source file is more than 100MB so it's taking a while.

We're also having some problems putting it all in one file so we might just stick with the version that needs loading for combat.

There'll be a premium version of MW: Ep1 available in December. That's an optional paid version with more stuff. We're hoping some of you guys would like to buy a version with more stuff (supers, characters, quests, alternative ending).

Oh, good. At least it's directly on its way to the server, and not under development (MAJOR development that is).

well we are waiting for the game...

and hmm...
premuim version might be a good thing BUT most people cant pay for it because they are not adults and thats the bigest problem with premuim games (thats the reason why most of them dont succed) so i hope you have gathered enough fans that will buy the game.

How much will it cost to buy it

Two bugs:
1. Muting the sound does not effect footsteps in town. (gravel crunching noise)
2. The combat initation splash screen, the circle sometimes has "99" in it just as the screen is disappearing. (I beleive I saw it on the derlict & worm battles, but it might be my imagination)
