Mobile Weapon 2: Developer Diary #5

Proposed new MW2 combat system

There are 3 different rows which characters and enemies can be placed. The player party must have 1 character per row. A maximum of 3 enemies can be placed per row (maximum of 9 enemies versus only 5 for MW1).

Different rows have the following effects:

Front Row:
+10% damage taken, +10% melee damage, +5% melee accuracy
Middle Row:
Normal damage taken, Normal attack damage
Back Row:
-25% damage taken, No melee attacks against or from the back row

This should be interesting. More enemies is always a good challenge. The line-up for PCs would be a ubiquitous Avenger-front, Luna-Middle, Stinger-back if I had to guess.

Although I'm wondering if Premium players can now have more then 3 MAWs out at a time? There will be the extra space after all.

hmm i see how this could lead to an interesting strategy B)

I think the middle row is best.

The front is for the MAW with the most health.

The back is for the MAW with lowest health.

OOOOOOOOHHHH, the plot thickens. XD
anyway, i like this, and i aggree that the middle is the best. stinger in the front, luna in the back and avenger in the middle. The row thing was a great idea!

Interesting system. Will we get to put more than one Maw in a row?

Thanks for all the suggestions. Technically it should be possible to field 4 MAWs and have more than one MAW per row.

The reason I restricted it to 3 MAWs and 1 per row is to ensure that none of the player MAWs overlapped. I'll do some tests with the game engine to see if it looks ok with 4 characters or more than one character per row.

I like how you added another dimension(unseen before) to the fighting system. YOU ROCK TYLER PRODUCTIONS!

I really like the idea about the rows. However, the +5% accuracy for meelee weapons just makes me laugh. Back in MW:1, who were actually missed with a one-hit meelee weapon when your level was high enough?

Keep at it TYLER!

We'll be re-balancing the system so it might be worth the bonus 5%.

I hope to make melee combat more interesting than just the usual "run up to the guy and hit him".
